For My Love Of War
During the First World War, cultural historian Stephane Audoin-Rouzeau explained: “Children were fully integrated into the war. In all the combatant nations childhood was the target for intense propaganda designed to bring the young whole-heartedly into the war. They too had to be “mobilised.” Many means of instruction were employed to promote this mobilisation, but their themes and objectives converged to form a cultural universe specifically for the consumption of young people, including the very youngest”.
