Self portrait

The worse thing about applying for a new passport is the photograph. That dispassionate, soulless face that stares back at you in the proscribed way that it has been ordered to stare back at the camera. It could never be a portrait of the self, more a bureaucratic bungle of physiognomy, an orchestration of plebian certitude.
