Shot At Dawn Memorial
The Shot at Dawn Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum seeks to address the question of honour and compassion in modern warfare. The memorial is to servicemen executed by firing squad during the First World War and exemplifies how all cultures will stoop to morally repugnant behaviour in defence of moribund principles of gallantry. The youngest British soldier executed by the British Army was 17.
