UtterBooks was set up by Mark Cator in 2018 with the idea of developing a hub for photography in the East of England. After a two year restoration programme of an old fishing warehouse we are now in a position to extend our operations to include workshops, beginning in September 2020, and print sales in May 2020.
With it's unique setting and extraordinary history, Great Yarmouth is the home to UtterBooks. The town stands on a sandbank, surrounded by sea, river and marsh, and has a strong historical link with photography. In 1890 P.H.Emerson published, Wild Life on a Tidal Water, a portfolio of photographs and text dedicated to Great Yarmouth and Breydon Water. P.H.Emerson is universally regarded today as one of the fathers of modern photography and Utter Journal, Issue 1 centres around his pioneering work.
