UtterBooks was set up by Mark Cator in 2018 with the idea of developing a hub for photography in the East of England. After a two year restoration programme of an old fishing warehouse we are now in a position to extend our operations to include workshops and print sales beginning in September 2020. [Please note: Workshops for 2020 have been cancelled due to COVID-19].

Great Yarmouth, with it's unique setting and extraordinary history, is the home to UtterBooks. The town stands on a sandbank, surrounded by sea, river and marsh, and has a strong historical link with photography. In 1890 P.H.Emerson published, Wild Life on a Tidal Water, a portfolio of photographs and text dedicated to Great Yarmouth and Breydon Water. P.H.Emerson is universally regarded today as one of the fathers of modern photography and Utter Journal, Issue 1 centres around his pioneering work.
