UtterBooks was set up by Mark Cator in 2018 with the idea of developing a hub for photography in the East of England. After a two year restoration programme of an old fishing warehouse we are now in a position to extend our operations to include workshops, beginning in May 2020, and print sales in March 2020.
Great Yarmouth, home to UtterBooks, has a unique setting with an extraordinary history. Situated on a sandbank, and surrounded by water on all sides, Great yarmouth is the Venice of the North Sea, with a strong link to photography. In 1890 P.H.Emerson published, Wild Life on a Tidal Water, a portfolio of photographs and text dedicated to the town and Breydon Water. P.H.Emerson is universally regarded as one of the fathers of modern photography and Utter Journal, Issue 1 centres around his pioneering work.
